So excited for this little guy to walk.
I remember with Adelaide, every milestone was bittersweet. While I loved that she was learning new skills, I was a little sad that she was leaving babyhood and entering toddlerville.
But now with Augie, I feel like I can’t wait for him to start walking and talking and playing with his big sister. I already love seeing them play together, and I know it will be even better once he can hold his own.
I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t been recording the mini milestones Augie’s been reaching. Here are a few new things he’s doing now:
– Standing on his own for a minute at a time
– Giving kisses to Mom and Dad when asked
– Blowing into the recorder flute to make it whistle
– Drinking from a straw
– Nodding and shaking his head (not sure if he knows “yes” and “no” yet, though)
– Giving zerberts
– Interested in making people laugh at him by making a “Ffff” sound or blowing raspberries
…And we just spent about five minutes blowing raspberries, just Kyle and me, because apparently not everyone does it the same way. I make the sound through my upper lip, and Kyle does it through his bottom lip. And neither of us is able to do it the other way.
Augie has been super clingy lately. He doesn’t like to be set down for a moment. Whenever I try to sit him on the floor, he shoots down his legs, locks his knees, and starts whining. And if I sit him down anyway, he wails.
At the same time, he wants to explore, and he wriggles around on my lap like he wants to get down.
Clearly this is frustrating for everyone.
So I Googled “clingy 9 month old” (ha) and found this article on BabyCenter:
So it’s a milestone! Not really as fun as rolling over or the first tooth or crawling, but I’ll take it.
I’ll take it and hope it passes quickly.
Augie started pulling himself up and standing yesterday.
It’s funny with the second kid…I think with Adelaide, I would know what the next milestone was. I would see it starting to happen and eagerly anticipate each new skill as it unfolded.
With Augie, he just starts doing stuff and I think, oh, he’s doing that now. Cool.
Poor bub is cutting his top teeth. And he also hasn’t pooped in a few days. One or both of these things is make him cry at random. His only comforts are nursing and finding tiny things to put into his mouth.
August is officially crawling!
(Thanks to Daddy for the video footage.)
I never know what they mean by “sitting up.” Does it mean the baby can sit unsupported if you sit him up? Or does it mean that the baby can get into a sitting position from laying down?
Augie has been able to sit unsupported for a while, but I’m pretty sure he can get into a seated position from laying down, now. I say “pretty sure” because when I left the room, he was laying down, and when I came back, he was sitting up. But it is possible that Adelaide pulled him up.
Whatever, I’m counting it.
Op, never mind, he did it right now in front of me. Good job, baby!
In other news, the Augmonster has a second tooth growing in on the bottom, and he likes to make raspberry sounds with his lips.
Augie cut his first tooth last night!
I had been feeling for a tooth for weeks. He has been so drooly and a little fussier than usual. I even checked on Saturday night—nothing. But Grandma Cindy found one little sharp tooth poking out of his lower gums. Hooray!
August rolled over today, tummy to back and back to tummy.
For perspective, his sister hit that milestone when she was 12 days older than he is now. I think they both got Daddy’s muscles. (I hope so!)
I should probably get video of this…
