Mommy, when will I have enough hair to make a muffin?
Adelaide: Bristow’s food is rainbow colored!
Mommy: Yeah, isn’t that weird?
Adelaide: No, it’s BEAUTIFUL!
We had come so far…It’s been, what? A year since she last cut her own hair? I thought she had given up on the idea. But I cut Augie’s hair today, and after Adelaide used the bathroom, she opened the door and proudly announced, “I cut my bangs!”
“No! No, no no…Adelaaaaaide…” I said. She got sheepish, and I felt bad for being upset about it. “But they were bothering me!” she said. I sighed. “But your bangs were getting so long, they were almost long enough to put behind your ears…” I whined.
I know it’s only hair. And I am one of the most lax people you’ll meet when it comes to hair, I mean, really. It’s just that her hair grows so slowly, and it had been a whole year of growing out.
Anyway, like I said. It’s just hair, and it’s just her bangs this time. And if anyone can pull off a DIY haircut, it’s Adelaide.
Me: Do you know who that is?
Adelaide: (Getting a little excited and shy) Grandpa Percy?!
Me: Actually, that is Grandpa Percy’s brother, Perry!
Adelaide: (deeply concerned and confused)
Me: Let’s go say hi!
Adelaide: (very shy and suspicious)
Me: It’s OK! I’ll go with you.
Happy all those things!
